At the Refugee Claimants Support Centre, we rely on the generosity of groups and individuals such as you to help meet the needs of asylum seekers in Brisbane.
In order to meet the needs of refugee claimants, the Centre seeks your support in any of the following areas:
- free accommodation (room or small flat);
- free accommodation including food for an individual or family;
- free accommodation including food and emotional support for an individual or family;
- commitment to sponsor the Refugee Claimants Support Centre;
- commitment to sponsor an individual refugee claimant or family;
- any financial assistance on a regular basis for food, transport, medical treatment etc.;
- one off donation of financial support; or
- offer of volunteer professional services in areas such as health, administration, education, technology and so on.
- Donations of material items needed for the Centre or for asylum seekers
Those refugee claimants who do have permission to work most often experience difficulty gaining employment. Your help in the provision of the following would be greatly appreciated:
- offers of any full or part-time job on a permanent, temporary or casual basis;
- linking us with possible employers who may be interested in employing refugee claimants.
Following, is a list of our current material needs:
- Food items such as Basmati and Jasmine rice, lentils, coconut milk, spices etc. Toiletries and general hygiene products are also needed.
- Telephone Cards. For asylum seekers to use for local calls and international calls (especially for international calls: Smiley, Estar, Budget cards).
- Some of the phone cards can be bought online: www.phonecardselector.com.au
- Bus tickets or Translink tickets (2, 3 and 4 zones) & Taxi Vouchers
- Most asylum seekers do not have cars and the only access to transportation is through the Brisbane public transportation services and even taxis for those that are not on an easy access line.
- ** Please note that unfortunately we are unable to accept more donations of clothing, linen or shoes because we do not have the facilities to store and process them. Please contact the RCSC on (07) 3357 9013 before delivering donations**
On behalf of our asylum seeking clients, we would like to thank you very much for your help and assistance.
If you think there is something else you would like to donate, or to give assistance in, please call the RCSC.
